Are You an Ostrich?According to Reverse Focus, someone suffering from Ostrich Syndrome is: “sticking their head in the sand and hoping they’ll never have to face their issues or deal with them when the time comes.”I see it plenty in the Reverse Mortgage industry. Retirees who didn’t plan for their retirement, or waited until it got better. Except things didn’t and now their stuck. Before you get stuck with your head in the sand, though, it’s important to ask yourself:“Are You an Ostrich?”Do you stick your head in the sand and hope it all goes away? Or avoid fast approaching problems until you absolutely need to solve them? If so, you’re an ostrich and that fact might be what’s hurting your retirement most of all.I’m not saying “ostrich-like” behavior only applies to retirement either. It can apply to any problems in life, those that can be left at a later date because they aren’t pressing, but come back to haunt you because you didn’t do anything about it when you could.Retirement, at least I believe, should be a time to explore new horizons, try new things but to also be as worry free as possible. It’s time to be proactive with your retirement because there is no time like the present. I know it sounds cheesy, but everything is changing, and not necesarily for the better. It’s true things change, they always do. It’s important to consider, though, that “things aren’t going to be as good as they are now,” at least when it comes to retirement.Previous government sources of retirement are depleting, or have disappeared all together. It’s time to take your head out of the sand and take a good look around.Avoiding problems is a great way to insure that your retirement backfires on you. Not everything needs to be done in one day, week, or month. After all, little by little, we do things faster. However, if you haven’t taken any of the necessary steps toward your retirement planning, there’s bound to be a problem along the line. It’s no longer preparing for the expected or the unexpected, it’s also anticipating that what you plan now will no longer how true in the future because one plan is no longer viable. You need a plan A, B, C, D and possibly E. The better you’re prepared for your retirement, the better it’ll be.So stop hiding your head in the sand like the Ostrich and take action, the only benefactor is you.Interested in a reverse mortgage program or want more information? Give PS Financial Services a call at (888) 845-6630 or email us at info@PSReverseMortgage.com. We do not pressure those who inquire, we are simply here to help.
